Lowndes Associated Ministries to People, Inc. (LAMP) has received $2,000 from the Walmart Charitable Foundation. LAMP will use it to buy toiletries, cleaning supplies and other items residents need during their stay.
"Our goal at Walmart/Sam's Club is to invest in the local communities and strengthen programs that improve the quality of life in the city where we live. We are happy to award LAMP this grant to help continue their mission of offering stepping stones to a home by providing homeless men, women and children with shelter, food and support services to better themselves,” explained Kelvin Miley, Sales & Training Manager – Membership, Sam's Club #6204.
LAMP’s mission is to provide comprehensive social services and innovative housing solutions that help put people on the path to a home starting with shelter, hot showers, and warm meals. In 2022, LAMP has already seen 570 residents and placed 128 clients into homes in through their Rapid Rehousing Program. LAMP feeds approximately 45 residents a day receiving two meals Monday – Friday and three meals on the weekend. LAMP strives to offer residents healthy meals throughout the week prepared in part by the residents. LAMP also provides social services and life skills classes offered by employees and volunteers throughout the week. Residents can stay a maximum of 90 days.
“Due to the increase of prices on household items and the rising population inside our shelter during the holiday season, this grant is very helpful. We are so thankful for Walmart/Sam’s Club with a heart for people and efforts right here in our community,” said Yurshema Flanders, Executive Director.
